Leo Geller is a guitarist and composer based in Lyon, France. In love with the music of John Coltrane, he decided to devote his life to jazz and improvised music around the age of 19.

 

He trained at the conservatories of Chalon-sur-Saone, Villeurbanne and Lyon, while also studying with Gael Horellou and Romain Pilon.

 

He champions his compositions and creative identity through his personal project, LEO GELLER 4TET -- with which he won the JazzContreBand festival competition and has played stages including Jazz a Vienne, Cosmo Jazz Festival, Rhino Jazz Festival, the Crescent Jazz Festival, and many more. The band's new album, 'Love & Spirit,' is coming out in 2026 on the prestigious Spanish label Fresh Sounds New Talent

 

Since September 2025, he has been running LA JAM A LIO, a biweekly jazz jam session that has become an important, community-building fixture for Lyon's jazz scene.

 

2026 marks the launch of TRANE 63, a tribute to John Coltrane with the wonderful pianist Etienne Deconfin.

 

Inspired by musicians such as Kurt Rosenwinkel and Bill Frisell, he works to find a personal, sincere voice and sound -- and to bring it into the various bands where he plays as a sideman: from the contemporary tango of Quinteto Libertad! to the wonderfully offbeat pop of Petite Magic.
